Many museums and archeological sites will be open at night time this Summer in Italy. In Rome the most important are the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum, and the Imperial Forums.
During all Summer, a lot of music events, exhibitions, theatrical performances, and festivals will be on in the Eternal city. You can find a list of activities on the official site of the Roman Summer. Another useful site with a list of events is this.
From June 12th, 2015 the event “Along the Tiber… Rome” will enlighten roman summer nights, every day from 7 pm. This year is at its 13th edition, organized by the cultural association La Vela D’Oro. From culture to music, from literature to solidarity, an open air art gallery alongside the Tiber river is set up from Ponte Sublicio to Ponte Sisto. There will be expositions, exhibitions, contests, meetings, workshops, with free admission. Here the official website.
Special Nocturnal Openings
Vatican Museums: renewed for another year the appointment of the Night Openings. Every Friday, until October 30th (except in August), the Vatican Museums will open at sunset, from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm (last entrance at 9:30 pm). Visitors will be able to admire important collections, following an itinerary that includes, among others, the Egyptian Museum, and the Sistine Chapel. The cultural and musical accompaniment to enrich the experience of some of the evening openings has also been confirmed.
Booking online is mandatory.
The Moon above the Colosseum: the main event of the summer archaeological season. The guided tour leads through the monument enlighten by the charming atmosphere only the Colosseum can suggest. You will walk through the monument by night, reaching the most important spots, included the underground.
On Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, until October 10 th, from 8.10 pm to midnight (last admission at 10.40 pm).
Colosseum, Undergruond and Third ring: the Hypogeum of the Colosseum reopens to the public, until September 30 th. You will be able to descent into the underground of the most famous and visited ancient monument in the world. This special tour ends with a climb to the third ring, an extraordinary point of view of the valley of the Colosseum with the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
Tours are available every day from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, but are limited in number, and booking is mandatory.
Journey in the Imperial Forums: an unusual night walk in the heart of the Imperial Forums will take you for a journey in the history of ancient Rome. Through special audio systems with headphones the spectators will listen to music, special effects and the story in 8 languages, accompanied by some amazing videos and reconstructions that show places as they looked like in ancient Rome.
Every evening until November 1st, from 9.00 pm, at the Forum of Augustus and at the Forum of Caesar.
Summer Nights at Castel Sant’Angelo: every summer, from July to September, Castel Sant’Angelo opens its doors after its regular closing time, with concerts, exhibitions, and guided tours of sections that are generally closed to public.
